Child Care Development Fund administers several programs to assist low-income families with full or partial payment towards child care while parents work, look for work, attend school, attend training programs or meet other defined criteria. Parent choice is a key element in these programs. All programs allow parents to choose the child care arrangement that best suits the unique needs of the child and family. Parents are free to choose from many child care settings including Family Child Care, After School Programs, Parks and Recreation programs. Even a friend or extended family member can be paid to care for your child. If you are a parent that is:

There are many ways that parents can apply for free to reduced childcare assistance. One major program is called subsidized child care.
Subsidized child care is paid for federally funded block grants that are administered through the Child Care Development Fund.
Child Care and Development Fund is government block grant that is managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Child Care and Development Fund provides assistance to low-income families who need child care due to work, work-related training and/or attending school.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a parent or primary caregiver responsible for children under the age of 13 years of age, or under 19 if incapable of self-care or under court supervision who needs assistance paying for childcare; and must also characterize your financial situation as low income or very low income. In order to qualify you must also be either employed or in some States enrolled in a training or education program.

To find out whether you are eligible to receive child care financial assistance, contact your State, Territorial, or Tribal Child Care and Development Fund subsidy agency.
In return the CCDF send these grants to the states in a form of categorical grants and the states send it down to the city and local municipalities. Child care assistance can also be fully or partially funded through local welfare offices, private organizations or individual foundations.
Child Care Assistance is available to families who meet income guidelines and are working or working and attending school a minimum of 20 hours per week. Federal Child Care and Development Block Grant funds help low-income families pay for the child care as they work, attend school or both.
The program will help pay child care costs to providers who meet certain criteria. The family may be required to make a co-payment based on the household income and family size.
