“Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: ‘Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!'”– Acts 13:16 (NIV)
The Ministry of Paul Bible video is a dramatic story of adventure, faith and endurance. From his encounter with King Agrippa to his terrifying shipwreck, Paul’s powerful preaching and godly example bring amazement and conversion as persecution is answered—again and again—with the gospel of love. One of the most notable Early Christian missionaries, Paul the Apostle urged nonbelievers to follow the risen Lord; his timeless example beckons each Christian to faithfully witness for Jesus Christ.
Did You Know?
- Unlike the Twelve Apostles, Paul did not know Jesus in life; he came to faith through a vision of the risen Jesus
- Thirteen New Testament letters (or epistles) are attributed to the apostle Paul
- Paul “received it [the Gospel] by revelation from Jesus Christ” (Gal 1:11-12), and according to the book of Acts, his conversion took place as he traveled the road to Damascus (on his way to persecute Jews)
Paul, Silas, the Pharisee leaders, Marcus, Captain Lysias, Festus and King Agrippa
Acts, Chapter 13-28
Paul’s ministry is an act of continuing faith and determination in the face of opposition from both Jewish religious leaders and Roman civil authority. Paul tirelessly crisscrosses the Roman’s Empire time and time again, preaching the word of Jesus to Jews and Gentiles alike as he establishes Christian communities that would grow into a universal church.
The Pharisees are a strict Jewish sect which considers Paul’s preaching and success in converting Jews to Christianity as a threat to their survival—a treath they must snuff out. The Pharisees are unrelenting in their opposition to Paul’s “ blasphemy,” and arrange to have him stoned.
Paul continues his ministry, traveling about the lands of the Romans Empire where he and Silas are whipped and thrown into prison for preaching Christianity. While in prison, they put their faith in the Lord and a massive earthquake strikes, destroying the prison and freeing Paul and Silas.
Their travels take them to Athens and Corinth, where the crowd calls Jesus a devil and deceiver. Paul declares that he will henceforth preach only to the Gentiles. He prays for God’s help in his work and Jesus reassures him that he will not be harmed and that many souls need his teachings. Restored in his faith, Paul continues his ministry.
When he returns to the Holy Land, he is met and attacked by an angry mob of non-believers. The Pharisees go to Festus, the Roman ruler of Jerusalem, demanding that Paul be put to death. Festus decides to ask Agrippa, the Jewish King, to speak with Paul. Paul explains to the King how he once persecuted Christians until his conversion on the road to Damascus, and since then he has preached the word of Jesus. King Agrippa is nearly converted to Christianity and tells Festus to allow Paul to sail to Rome, as he has done nothing wrong.
Paul is eventually sentenced to death by Nero, the Roman emperor. Paul, however, who has kept his faith all along and courageously continued to preach the word of Jesus, is prepared to meet his fate.
Paul’s tireless efforts year after year in preaching the word of Jesus and established Christian communities in an example to us all. The same efforts to reach others with Jesus’ message is just as critical today as it was nearly 2,000 years ago. What was once Paul’s responsibility becomes the responsibility of all Christians today.
